SPORT
Sport is an integral part of life here in Screen. As an Active School we make every effort to promote as many different activities as possible: swimming, Irish dancing, Hip Hop, Tae Kwon Do, golf, outdoor adventure activities, hand ball, tag rugby… It’s a very long list!!

We aim to give the children as many activity-based experiences as possible so that they can try new things and maybe discover a new outlet that they can pursue outside school.

Our school is especially committed to Gaelic games. Every week the GAA coached come to our school and work with all classes from Junior Infants to 6th class. We focus on building a good foundation of skills in all children.

As a school we participate fully in the Rackard League series including the mini-7s blitz tournaments for both boys’ and girls’ football and hurling. We have experienced many sorting successes.

Over the years both the boys and girls in Screen have been victorious and runners up in the both the roinn A and B leagues with our most recent success in 2019 when Screen NS was awarded the Best Handball School title.

In term 1 2021 – 2022 we are lucky to have Shelmalier GPO Séamas Casey as our GAA trainer on Fridays here in Screen. Check out the Gallery below for some of the fun activities.

Equestrian Interschools Screen NS

This year, Screen NS is has entered the equestrian interschools primary events for the first time.

The Interschools is an event where schools compete against other schools in showjumping. There can be 3/4 people on a team. If you have 4 it is better because you can drop a round. In the Interschools for primary schools you can either drop 55s or 75s”

Coláiste Bríde Carnew hosted the show jumping competition in Barnadown Equestrian Centre on Sunday 17th of October with 2 Screen teams taking part. Team navy and team white. Girls from 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th classes are involved for the school. On this their first outing Screen NS placed 5th and 6th out of the 12 participating teams.

On Sunday the 31st of October our ladies were out again braving the weather in the Wexford Equestrian Interschools where the came in 2nd place. Two of our amazing competitors came 3rd and 4th in the 55cm individual. The team finished on 8 faults.
