September in Senior Infants

It’s hard to believe that we are already finished our first month in Senior Infants! We’ve settled back in and love being back with our friends. We’ve done lots of learning this month in maths and STEM and have been working hard sorting and creating lots of patterns with our maths boxes. We’ve also been busy making lego mini builds of aliens, airports, boats and buildings.

We’ve also been out and about keeping a close eye on the changing seasons and investigating signs of Autumn. We’ve gone on a leaf hunt, painted leaves and made leaf rubbings of the different leaves we can find around our school.

In Aistear we’ve made marvellous creations using all of our crafting skills, we’ve built super-tall towers with blocks, and amazing boats, planes, and cars with our lego and have been busy cooking up delicious meals in the home corner.

In Gaeilge we’ve been learning all about the colours of the rainbow and lots of animals on the farm. We love singing our songs ‘seasaigí suas’, ‘is mise an madra’ and ‘tá teidí ag rith’.

We also had lots of fun having a picnic with Junior infants and having our 5th class reading buddies come down for a very special Friday storytime!

We can’t wait for all the fun October will bring!

April in Jane’s Room

We have been really enjoying having hot meals in school. Lots of happy faces and tummies!

We have been playing at the zoo in Aistear. We enjoyed watching the Dublin Zoo webcam. We joined a dairy farmer on his farm in Kanturk via Zoom with AgriAware.

We visited the Raven for an ecology workshop. The children really enjoyed pond dipping and learning about all of the different insects they found.

March

We had a very busy month in our room this month. We practised coding for Engineers Week with beebots. We dressed up for World Book Day and had a pyjama day for winning Class of the Month last month. We visited the Garden Centre in our play areas, and we continue to work on our book with our TAP+ artist, Mirona Mara.

February Updates

We have been busy looking after the birds visiting us. Mirona has been working on our book all about birds with us. We were at the Sports Shop in Aistear – we drove around delivery vans and checked stock, all the while we were learning about Money in our Maths Stations. We have been playing the glockenspiel with Siobhán.

January with Jane’s Class

We worked with Colin to set up some bird tables and feeders – thanks so much to everyone who donated seed and food to our collection. The birds are well fed.

We have had some goldfinches pay us a visit.

We also got to meet our TAP artist, Mirona Mara, who will be working with us on a project that is going to be based on birds and stories.

We learned all about the Estate Agents in our Aistear Play.

December in Jane’s Room

We have been learning about the Post Office in our Aistear activities, so we decided to go on a letter box/post box hunt around the village. We paid a visit to the crib in the church and looked at the Advent wreath. We also attended some Christmas drawing lessons with Nadia Corridan online. We spent a lot of time getting ready for our Christmas Show – we couldn’t wait for everyone to see our show!

November in SI/1st

Senior Infants and First Class attended some Science Week events online in November.

We also played all about the Café in our Aistear lessons – we washed dishes, created menus, and looked at the story of the Tiger Who Came To Tea.

We have been busy working on our glockspiels and creating some lovely penguin art.

We had Friendship week, and we chatted lots about what makes a good friend.

October Updates

This month, we had a very spooky classroom! For Aistear, we turned our classroom into a Witches Den – where the children came up with all sorts of spells and potions.

We also visited the Wexford Wildfowl Reserve and attended an online Webinar with AgriAware, where we got to see the running of a Dairy Farm and ask John the farmer some questions.

For maths week, we played games and went on a Shape Hunt around the school.

We have been working on report writing and the First Class got to try their hand at recording their reports with a green screen over a few afternoons – hopefully we will get to use this more during the year!

September 2023

We have been learning all about the School Office in our Aistear and Literacy lessons. We even got to visit Anne in the office to ask her some questions, and she kindly showed us around! We also learned about 2D shapes in Maths and Mé Féin in Irish – we looked at questions like – Cé tusa?

Senior Infants and First Class are working with Jane, this year. We cannot wait to see what they get up to in their room. Check out this page for our regular updates.

School Year 2022 – 2023

This year, 1st and 2nd Class will be working with Ms. Kent. We look forward to hearing about all of the fun activities that they get up to, this year!
