Sport is an integral part of life here in Screen. As an Active School we make every effort to promote as many different activities as possible: swimming, Irish dancing, Hip Hop, Tae Kwon Do, golf, outdoor adventure activities, hand ball, tag rugby… It’s a very long list!!
We aim to give the children as many activity-based experiences as possible so that they can try new things and maybe discover a new outlet that they can pursue outside school.
Our school is especially committed to Gaelic games. Every week the GAA coached come to our school and work with all classes from Junior Infants to 6th class. We focus on building a good foundation of skills in all children.
As a school we participate fully in the Rackard League series including the mini-7s blitz tournaments for both boys’ and girls’ football and hurling. We have experienced many sporting successes, our most recent being:
June 2015: Winners of the girls’ camoige league.
June 2015: Winners of the boys’ hurling league.
November 2016: Runners-up in the girls’ football league.
A marathon event is held in Crossabeg each year and Screen’s Marathon Club has been a keen competitor for the past 2 years coming a close 2nd to Crossabeg last year. Training will commence in the months leading up to the event in 2018.
We call our club SCREENATHON.
197 laps of our track is a complete marathon.
